ABU DHABI, 11th June, 2023 (WAM) — The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, NCEMA, has organized a series of joint assessment team meetings dealing with weather and tropical conditions as part of its monitoring and assessment of the UAE’s tropical climate and its possible impact on the country.
The meeting, which was held in the presence of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Defence, Energy and Infrastructure, and the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), also reviewed the preparedness of the competent authorities to deal with possible emergencies.
Through its ongoing monitoring operations, NCM confirmed that Tropical Cyclone Biparjoy has been reclassified as Cat-2 due to increased wind speeds around the center to 165 to 175 km/h. The NCM assured that it is expected to continue moving north and northeast towards the coast of India and Pakistan and will not affect the UAE for the next five days.
The Joint Assessment Team emphasized that since the detection of the tropical fluctuation, all authorities have taken proactive steps to ensure they are prepared for any possible outcome, and confirmed that the team will continue to monitor the situation until it passes.
The team also appealed to the public to learn about the situation by looking for information released through NCM official accounts, and to avoid spreading and spreading rumors and misinformation to avoid legal prosecution.
