Emirates News Agency – SEHA’s telehealth services boost medical tourism in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 10th August, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the largest healthcare network in the UAE, has seen its extensive telehealth services become available to overseas patients seeking specialist medical services in Abu Dhabi main communication channel.

Abu Dhabi’s strong healthcare system and well-trained medical professionals are fast becoming the city of choice for medical tourism. According to the 2020 Medical Tourism Index rankings, Abu Dhabi is ranked as the eighth best medical tourism destination in the world.

SEHA’s telehealth virtual outpatient clinic, with approximately 50,000 virtual consultations in 2021, represents the network’s commitment to increasing global access to Abu Dhabi’s healthcare system. The network has also launched dedicated telehealth services for psychiatric patients and the SEHA mobile app, so patients from around the world can easily access SEHA’s various services through multiple channels.

Recently, doctors at Tawam Hospital performed a minimally invasive spine surgery for an overseas telemedicine patient. The person suffered from severe spinal disease that caused chronic and debilitating pain for more than nine years.

Dr M Ziad Aljian, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at SEHA Tawam Hospital, said: “Patients contact us through our telehealth service and are extremely distressed at the time of diagnosis. Our team in Tawam is well equipped to provide medical services. Helping patients in need overseas. Spine. The minimally invasive procedure was successful, and the patient was mobilized through physiotherapy the next day. Two weeks later, she returned to her home country and was monitored and followed up by our team through regular telemedicine. Today, she is living a normal, Painless life.”

Talking about her experience at Tawam Hospital, the patient said: “Abu Dhabi and Tawam Hospital were the perfect choice for my surgery. From when I scheduled my first appointment to my post-operative follow-up, the telemedicine feature was such a blessing. Surgery My life was very difficult before, but today, thanks to Dr Ziad and his team, I am pain free and look forward to finally being able to live and enjoy my life.”
