ABU DHABI, 6th June, 2023 (WAM) — Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said that the UAE is striving to implement the highest standards of global food safety as a top priority in achieving the goals of the national food safety strategy and Ensure the health and well-being of all residents.
In a statement to mark World Food Safety Day, the minister added: “Food safety is the main pillar of our National Food Safety Strategy. The Ministry has outlined its vision for the future with the aim of implementing a number of policies, laws and interests with the UAE Stakeholders collaborate to develop regulations to ensure that all food products across the food value chain comply with regulations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of society.”
She added: “Food safety is a major global concern, with hundreds of millions of people falling ill each year from food contamination. Therefore, a global framework is urgently needed to strengthen food safety standards and ensure the health of the diets provided to everyone in the world . This is particularly relevant to poor societies and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially the fight against hunger globally”.
The Minister explained: “Hosting COP28 in the UAE this year will provide an opportunity to foster constructive discussions to improve global food security and food safety on a sustainable basis. This will contribute to the continued provision of healthy, sufficient and safe food Food benefits billions of people by developing the existing food system into a climate-smart system, reducing the carbon footprint of the entire food value chain.Through this year’s COP28 conference, the UAE will mobilize international efforts to develop a roadmap to promote food safety, especially following the global food security crisis”.
