DUBAI, 24th December, 2022 (WAM) — The UAE Environment and Municipal Works Council held its second meeting, chaired by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

The conference saw the launch of the Waste-Free Schools project, which aims to promote the adoption of circular economy principles in schools.

Several key topics were also discussed on the meeting agenda, including the ‘We The UAE 2031′ vision and environmental indicators of the national plan, municipalities’ preparations for the rainy season, and the direction of the UAE’s overall environmental policy.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) in Dubai, is the second time council members have convened since the UAE Cabinet approved the resolution establishing the agency in May 2022.

“Our wise leadership’s continued support for environmental stewardship has greatly contributed to positioning the UAE as a driver of global environmental action and a recognized global convener of relevant discussions and events,” Almheiri said.

She added, “The ‘We The UAE 2031’ vision, launched during the UAE Government Annual Meeting in November 2022, represents a national plan through which the UAE will continue on its development path for the next 10 years, emphasizing its Pioneering approach in environmental protection. We seek to strengthen collaboration among all stakeholders in the UAE to ensure we achieve the environmental indicators of our vision.”

The minister noted that the council explored transformational environmental projects, based on the new approach to the work of the federal government announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Principles” as a guide 50″.
