Emirates News Agency – UAE joins G20 summit, supports international cooperation to tackle economic, development challenges

ABU DHABI, 14th November, 2022 (WAM) — The UAE will participate in the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, on 15th and 16th November, under the motto: “Recover together…recover stronger,” said the UAE Minister.

The high-level meeting, including the world’s major economic powers, will discuss strengthening global economic cooperation to meet economic and development challenges.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the UAE’s participation in the G20 summit is important for the country, given the challenges facing the global economy. He also noted that the UAE remains committed to strengthening economic cooperation, acting as a reliable and responsible energy supplier, and ensuring the stability of the global energy market, given the challenges facing developing countries in particular. He also highlighted the UAE’s commitment to its ambitious innovation and clean energy investment agenda.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah said: “The UAE’s participation in the G20 Summit as the Guest of Honor is part of its commitment to work with international partners to stimulate economic growth and achieve equitable global development.”

He said the UAE is keen to strengthen regional and international cooperation in support of stability and development. In addition, it will redouble its commitment to effective global action to achieve these goals.

Sheikh Abdullah added, “Improving economic outcomes in key sectors and ensuring that all societies live in dignity remain the top priorities during the UAE’s participation in the G20 process this year. This is an extension of the UAE’s foreign policy, which has always sought to support international partners, and raise the voices of other countries not represented at such meetings.”

Furthermore, His Highness noted that the UAE will emphasize in its engagement that dialogue and diplomacy remain the best options for strengthening international solidarity and trust, responding to crises and building common interests.

Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State and UAE G20 Coordinator, explained that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen to work with the international community to support all efforts to address global challenges , while promoting prosperity.

He stressed that the UAE strongly supports the G20 process to address common challenges and encourage a balanced, sustainable and comprehensive global economic recovery.

Al Sayegh added: “The UAE affirmed its commitment to support the priorities outlined in the G20 meeting and underscored the importance of the platform as a major economic forum that contributes to stronger international cooperation and economic stability.”

In addition, he emphasized the importance of G20 summit outcomes in fostering cooperation to address pressing global challenges in the service of all humanity. Al Sayegh said: “Based on our successful experience as the guest of honor invited by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the G20 summit in 2020, the UAE seeks to strengthen cooperation on a number of major issues through special committees and focus on global health, food security, climate challenges , the fight against corruption, digital innovation, women’s empowerment, and other documents that will emerge from this year’s G20 process.”

Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said the Ministry of Health and Prevention plays a pivotal role in international issues at the G20 summit. Al Owais noted that the UAE leadership has prioritized enhanced cooperation to achieve a resilient future that can address health challenges and support the Sustainable Development Goals.

He highlighted the important role of the G20 in supporting global efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, while promoting cooperation, coordination and exchange of experiences among participating countries to facilitate recovery of health systems.

Al Owais added: “Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE has been keen to work in a spirit of solidarity with the international community. It has led the way in providing medical assistance to more than 135 countries and has helped “reduce The impact of the pandemic. In addition, the UAE supports the establishment of well-equipped field hospitals in various countries and uses its advanced transportation capabilities to help expedite the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. “

He said the UAE, with the direction and support of its leadership, has deftly handled the COVID-19 pandemic with its advanced healthcare system, national strategy, preventive measures and forward-looking vision.

Mohamed Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of Finance, noted that the UAE, through its participation in the G20 financial track this year, has been involved in advancing key global flagship initiatives such as the launch of the Pandemic Fund, which will play a key role in bridging The role of funding gaps in pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. He also said that the UAE contributed to the launch of the Climate Agriculture Innovation Mission, which aims to increase investment in sustainable and innovative global food systems that are resilient to climate change. Among other things, the country is working to ensure global financial stability and promote long-term fiscal sustainability, while advancing the G20 Sustainable Finance Roadmap and agenda to scale up sustainable infrastructure investment, he noted.
