Emirates News Agency – UAE participates in Moscow-Afghan consultation format as Guest of Honor

ABU DHABI, 18th November, 2022 (WAM) — The UAE participated in the fourth round of Moscow-style consultations on Afghanistan in Moscow, the Russian capital, as the country of honor, with 13 countries participating, along with Russia: China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, in addition to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, are present together with the UAE as the country of honor.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Hamad Al Habsi, Deputy Head of the UAE Mission to the Russian Federation, thanked Russia for inviting the UAE to participate, acknowledging the important role played by the country. Al Habsi reiterated the UAE’s position, calling on the international community to cooperate to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and provide relief to the Afghan people so that they can live a decent life. In this regard, Al Habsi highlighted the UAE’s support for the Afghan people and international efforts aimed at building a more sustainable future.

Al Habsi also stressed the importance of working with regional and international partners to restore stability and achieve recovery in Afghanistan, while working to serve the interests of the Afghan people and improve their living conditions.He also reiterated that the UAE strongly condemns and permanently rejects all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability and contrary to all human values ​​and principles

Furthermore, Al Habsi said that the UAE has extended a helping hand as part of its strong commitment to the Afghan people. He noted that in recent years, the UAE has provided more than AED6.2 billion aimed at providing food and improving health services, water and sanitation, housing and education, with a special focus on women and girls.

Al Habsi also discussed other humanitarian efforts to help the Afghan people, noting the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge to meet the needs of Afghan families. To date, the air bridge has delivered more than 285 tons of food and emergency medical supplies to Afghanistan, he said.
