TOKYO, 17th June, 2023 (WAM) — Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, has commended the UAE’s domestic and international efforts to promote sustainability and energy diversification, including through renewable energy projects, and in particular Focus on solar energy.
He confirmed his country’s participation in the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP28), which will be held in Dubai Expo City in the UAE this November.
President Surangel S. Whipps Jr, who is currently visiting Japan, praised the UAE’s efforts on climate action and environmental responsibility in an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
He said, “As a responsible and reliable partner to the international community, the UAE plays a leading role in climate action and supporting the clean energy transition. It has the world’s largest solar project, invests in solar projects in many Significant investments have been made in peaceful nuclear energy.”
He added that Palau supports the appointment of Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Special Envoy on Climate Change, as COP28 President-designate.
“Climate and energy issues are linked. Facing the challenges of climate change and global warming and supporting global environmental protection efforts will require constructive cooperation between oil producers and consumers,” concluded the President of Palau.
