ABU DHABI, 27th May, 2023 (WAM) — Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President, to support school libraries and foster a reading culture among students, the AED 10 million was allocated for purchases from the 32nd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) for gifting to UAE school libraries.
The program aims to foster a reading culture and enrich educational and cultural resources by providing a diverse range of books and reference materials in UAE schools.
The significant increase in funding compared to last year’s AED 6 million underscores the UAE’s commitment to culture and its strategic vision to foster an enlightened and knowledge-driven society where reading and learning are essential.
This move reflects the importance of investing in the development of the next generation. It reflects the UAE leadership’s longstanding support for the publishing industry and the wider cultural arena, pioneered by the late UAE Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan during the inaugural Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in 1981 of.
The unwavering support provided was the catalyst for the fair to fulfill its pivotal role as a symbol of culture and knowledge. Year after year, the event serves as a central hub for the publishing and creative industries, attracting respected authors, publishers, intellectuals and content creators from the region and beyond. Book fairs play a pivotal role in promoting global intercultural exchange and enriching intellectual discourse on a global scale.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Centre, under the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), the fair will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) and will close on May 28, 2023.
