BRUSSELS, 28th April, 2023 (WAM) — The Steering Committee of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Parliamentary Meeting has approved the UAE’s request to host the organization’s meeting in cooperation and partnership with the Federal National Council (FNC), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the European Parliament, on the sidelines of the WTO’s 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13), hosted by Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of 2024.
The UAE’s hosting of the international event underscores the ongoing cooperation and partnership between the FNC and the IPU and continues the UAE’s diplomatic success at international parliamentary events.
The country’s hosting of MC13 is also in line with its prominent status as a member of the WTO, an important participant in the world’s multilateral trading system.
Participants at the 51st session of the WTO Parliamentary Meeting Steering Committee lauded the UAE’s efforts to host MC13 and the organization’s Parliamentary Meeting, a joint project between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament aimed at ensuring transparency at the WTO.
Marwan Al Muhairi, FNC member and UAE representative on the committee, emphasized that given the UAE’s strategic position on the world trade map and its position as a central part of international trade, the UAE is keen to support the multilateral trade agenda system and its commitment to establishing a fair, Support for efforts towards a sustainable, flexible and comprehensive global economic system.
