Emirates News Agency – WAM report highlights key milestones for UAE in 2022

ABU DHABI, 29th December, 2022 (WAM) — 2022 will undoubtedly be an active year for the UAE, setting the stage for a series of important events, resolutions and outstanding achievements that further drive the country’s sustainable development process.

As the new year approaches, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) has produced a report highlighting the UAE’s major achievements in 2022.

January saw two major milestones: the implementation of the UAE’s new weekend and the establishment of Masdar City’s first space economic zone.

In February, the UAE announced the gradual easing of operational capacity restrictions on events and events and the introduction of a federal corporate tax on business profits.

Meanwhile, March saw the approval of a resolution on furloughs for UAE citizens working in the government who wish to start their own businesses, culminating in the spectacular closing ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai, which was attended by more than 24 million visitors.

At the end of April, the UAE Cabinet approved the UAE’s Digital Economy Strategy and joined the International Partnership on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE).

May was a time of great mourning for the UAE, which was struck with grief due to the passing of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, but the nation soon after felt a breath of relief with the election of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the new President of the UAE.

The country’s unemployment insurance law was enacted in early June following an order by President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed to finalize pending housing grant applications and restructure support programs for low-income citizens.

In July, President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed announced the country’s priorities and future plans in an inspiring televised address, after the UAE Cabinet approved leave controls for citizens working in the government.

August kicked off on a high note with the establishment of the High Commission on Digital Transformation in Government. The UAE’s per capita Gross National Income (GNI) index ranks 13th globally.

In September, the country rolled out a new generation of UAE passports and began operating Unit 3 of the Barakah nuclear power plant later that month.

As for October, major milestones for the UAE include the launch of a trial run of a new advanced visa system and the approval of the country’s 2023-2026 federal budget, with expected spending of AED252.4 billion.

In November, the UAE entered into a partnership with the United States to invest $100 billion to produce an additional 100 gigawatts of clean energy globally, and the UAE made progress in environmental protection. November also marks a full return to normalcy in the UAE as all COVID-19 precautionary measures are lifted.

Finally, the UAE capped off the year with two major advances in space, organizing the inaugural Abu Dhabi Space Debate and launching the Arab world’s first lunar rover, dubbed the Rashid rover “.
