ABU DHABI, 15th November, 2022 (WAM) — The countdown to the Abu Dhabi Zayed Marathon has begun, this Saturday, 19th November, under the leadership of the Ruler Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed. All preparations were completed under the patronage of His Highness Al Nahyan Al Dhafra district representatives.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to organ donation programs supported by the Emirates Red Crescent.
Lieutenant General Mohamed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Zayed Charity Marathon, said he was pleased that the race had returned to its original starting point after a brief pause to protect participants and organizers from the COVID-19 pandemic. He also expressed his delight that the game attracted a huge turnout from Abu Dhabi nationals of all categories, expatriates and even some tourists, which extended the registration period to the evening after Wednesday 16th November. All participants will receive a participation medal and a T-shirt with the marathon logo, important details in preparation for the marathon wherever it takes place.
The 10K race and its route reflect its philosophy, values, high purpose and meaning. The race will start at the beautiful Erth Abu Dhabi Hotel, pass the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and then Wahat Al Karama with all its symbolism and timeless nationalism.
The marathon is divided into different categories to allow everyone to participate and contribute to its noble goal of supporting a variety of health-related activities and programs.
There will be 3km and 5km races, as well as race categories including the determined disabled, hemiplegic, amputee, wheelchair and Special Olympics categories. The prize money has been increased to AED 1 million and will be distributed among competitors according to their category, distance and race type.
AED 25,000 for first place in the 10km race, AED 15,000 for first place in the 5km race, AED 10,000 for first place in the 3km race, and exclusive prizes for determined Prizes prepared by individuals, starting at AED 13,000,000 points for the top 10 winners.
Established in Abu Dhabi in 2001 under the direction of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and named after the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed The marathon is named after de bin Sultan Al Nahyan and reflects his philanthropic spirit which is also supported by various public and private entities.
The current edition of the Abu Dhabi Zayed Charity Marathon has set a festival for the event, including festive performances, while there will be different children’s activities, activities, products and especially popular food.
