Emirates Steel Arkan, the UAE’s largest listed steel and building materials company, said standardisation played a key role in its strategy to diversify its revenue streams and boost exports.
“This year, we have increased the number of export markets to more than 60 and now half of our steel production is sold to customers around the world, each with their own product specifications,” said its group chief executive Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi.
“Managing the quality of our product range is critical to the success of our business and can only be achieved through the application of internationally recognised standards,” he said while speaking at the 2022 annual meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in Abu Dhabi last week. Al Remeithi noted that decarbonization is another factor that requires the application of new standards.
“Standardizing the decarbonization potential of our industry will support the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries. That’s why we are proud to be a diamond sponsor of this event,” he said.
Organised by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technologies (MoIAT), the event took place from 19 to 23 September and was attended by Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technologies, and Ulrika Francke, Chairman of ISO.
He added that the group’s support for the ISO meeting will help foster dialogue around international standards and their role in addressing global challenges.-TradeArabia News Service
