United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi celebrated his first birthday aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in what he described as a “truly anti-gravity celebration”.
On Tuesday 23 May, Al Neyadi celebrated his 42nd birthday.
considering Twitter On Thursday, he shared photos of how he celebrated his birthday in space with colleagues, whom he called “family”.
“Celebrating my first birthday in space with colleagues who have become family!” Al Neyadi tweeted.
“The highlight of the day? A maple muffin top cake from the American crew, cinnamon buns with yogurt and dried fruit from the Russian crew, and finally a blessing in Arabic,” he added.
“A real gravity-defying celebration!” he added.
He also made direct phone calls to relatives and students in his hometown of Al Ain, during which he talked about the food his mother prepared.
Al Neyadi received another birthday present from UAE students.
“@Astro_Alneyadi had a touching celebration of his birthday with Alney students after interacting with them on the International Space Station yesterday. Happy birthday Sultan! Hope you had a memorable birthday in space,” Mohammad Dubai Salem Humaid Al Mari, Director General of the Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), tweeted.
