Emirati students led by Unique World Robotics make history at Morocco International Robotics Competition First Lego League

DUBAI, UAE: Eight Emirati students mentored, trained and led by Dubai-based robotics training organization Unique World Robotics have won a major international prize in an international robotics competition. They’ve created some amazing robots that deliver innovative and sustainable energy solutions – helping them win coveted awards on the international stage.

UAE’s UWR Googly recently won the highly regarded Innovative Project Award at the First Lego League Open International 2023, an international robotics competition in Morocco. The UAE also ranks second among competing countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, South Korea, Spain, Australia, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Qatar and Morocco.

The eight-member UAE team included Abhinav Chamoli from Ambassador School; Pranav Rajesh from GEMS United Indian School; Vedanth Aggarwal from GEMS Modern Academy; Rohan Pillai from Sharjah Delhi Private School; Idhant Agarwal from JESS 40; Nidanth Krishna; Nershlin Naidoo from The Arbor School Dubai and Tinveer Naidoo from The Arbor School Dubai. They are led by Bansan Thomas George, founder and CEO of Unique World Robotics.

The UWR Googly team created an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to improve energy efficiency. They created the ECO Switch EV3 robot that can switch energy from solar to wind depending on the weather, reducing pollution and increasing sustainability.

“Emirati students demonstrated outstanding skills in coding, assembling robots and using them in front of a global audience and jury, which captured the undivided attention of the organizers and jury members,” said Bansan Thomas George, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Unique World Robotics said the officer.

“The success reflects their expertise, hard work and collective teamwork, and they have demonstrated their abilities on the international stage to make the UAE proud.”

The move is part of Unique World Robotics’ quest to promote the UAE as a place for scientific development and innovation, in line with the UAE government’s vision.

The first LEGO League Morocco International Open in 2023 was an amazing experience that brought together brains from 48 countries, fostering unity, innovation and collaboration. The Googly team, along with participants from various schools, had the opportunity to participate in this global gathering to exchange knowledge, foster innovation, and celebrate the extraordinary power of young innovators.

More than 60 teams of youth aged 9 to 16 from 48 countries participated in the competition under the theme of “Super Energy”. The competition, the culmination of the 2022/2023 season, is the result of hard work by the LOOP For Science and Technology Association, which has been working to promote educational robotics across the Kingdom. Participants will need to demonstrate innovation by proposing solutions related to energy production, storage, transport and use.

The UAE’s Googly team overcame challenges from 47 other participating countries to compete for a number of coveted prizes at the competition, which will take place in the Moroccan city of Maracchech from 18-21 May 2023.

Previously, a group of UAE students led by Unique World Robotics won 7 awards including the global finalist award in the recently held International Space Application Challenge, reflecting the development of local talents in the UAE.

These awards strengthen the UAE’s position in global gaming and IT innovation, in line with the UAE Government’s vision to create a technology and innovation ecosystem and transform the UAE into a global innovation hub. Unique World Robotics has proven its ability to help realize the UAE’s innovative vision.

The demand for robotics market trends is growing. In recent days, the industry has seen huge investments from end users and governments in the market. The global robotics market size was valued at USD 62.75 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach a staggering USD 189.36 billion by 2027, at a CAGR of 13.5% from 2020 to 2027. Increasing need for automation and safety in organization and availability of affordable and energy-efficient robots is driving the growth of the global robotics market.

NASA is implementing its Space Apps program in 313 cities around the world. In addition to engaging 10 million students around the world through social media, the NASA Space Apps Challenge plans to engage 200,000 students directly in the competition.
