In 2023, North Carolina A&T State University announced its first eSports tournament, with participants competing in NBA 2K. The game helps players create basketball video games with an immersive experience. According to NC A&T, the gaming community on campus has been hosting esports events since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Competitions are usually held five or six times a year.
Last week, Morgan State praised the MSU Bears Esports team for its dominance in the Middle East Games. eSports Championship and took first place. “Special thanks to their Overwatch squad for going undefeated for a semester and earning the Player of the House title,” the tweet read.
The Middle East Athletic Conference (MEAC) is made up of eight historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Howard University, University of Maryland East Coast, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University , North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University.
