Emirates Central Cooling Systems Company (Empower) said it has signed an agreement with leading UAE developer Sobha Realty to provide district cooling services to the Sobha Hartland master community with a capacity of 17,000 tons of refrigeration (RT).
Under the agreement, Sobha Hartland will join Empower’s broad district cooling portfolio, and Empower will provide critical district cooling services to eight buildings in Sobha Hartland by expanding the distribution network of the company’s Meydan district cooling project.
Sobha Hartland is an 8 million square foot waterfront community located in MBR City with access to premium amenities, restaurants, retail centers, educational and recreational facilities.
Empower said it will begin servicing the first two buildings this year, transmitting and distributing district cooling energy extending from the Meydan plant through a dedicated pipeline network, which has a cooling capacity of 45,000 RT and uses advanced technology.
It forms part of the Meydan master community district cooling project, acquired by Empower in 2021 through an agreement that will provide Meydan master community with 382,000 RT of district cooling energy covering 750 buildings in the city building.
Empower also announced during the acquisition that three new district cooling plants and a pipeline network will be built to meet the required cooling energy, with a total investment of more than AED 1.6 billion (US$ 435.6 million).
“The addition of the Sobha Realty project to our portfolio reflects the confidence property developers and customers have in our reliable service and highlights its role in delivering premium district cooling services that save up to 50% over traditional air conditioning systems % energy,” said Empower CEO Ahmed bin Shafar after signing the deal with Sobha Realty managing director Francis Alfred.
Empower is focused on servicing landmark real estate projects and aims to provide its environmentally friendly district cooling services to all sectors in Dubai, including residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, etc., he said.
Regarding the strategic partnership, Alfred said it is in line with the group’s commitment to support the UAE’s sustainability-focused plans, such as the 2050 Net Zero Strategic Initiative.
“Our aim is to create a building portfolio that reflects our commitment to a sustainable built environment.
