effort invest in Asylum Entertainment Groupthere are a number of production banners dedicated to improv dramas.

Asylum’s companies include Content Group, Texas Crew Productions, Big City TV, Breaklight Pictures and Auditity. The banners will be part of Endeavor’s non-scripted content division, led by Rebecca Sanhueza, Endeavor’s executive vice president of content strategy and development and head of non-scripted content. Asylum CEO Steve Michaels and Asylum President Jodi Flynn will report to Sanhueza.

Endeavor President Mark Shapiro called the deal complementary to its existing assets. Endeavor will provide Asylum with financing and other resources for growth, particularly through international acquisitions.

“Asylum is an ideal complement to our existing portfolio, and we will fully support Steve in building an industry-leading unscripted business,” Shapiro said. “Rebecca was a key architect of Endeavor’s content strategy,” said Shapiro. “She played a key role in growing Endeavor Content and IMG’s original content business and brings the vision and strategy needed to realize our global ambitions in the unscripted space.”

Michaels has built Asylum Entertainment Group for the past seven years. He sold the predecessor of Asylum to Legendary in 2014.

“Endeavor is the ideal partner for our next chapter of growth in the unscripted space,” said Michaels. “We are excited to offer new partners the unique opportunity to expand their vision, brand and business.”

The deal comes as the industry braces for a labor conflict in Hollywood and a shutdown that could force series and movies to go off the air. Adding Asylum’s production capabilities will help Endeavor expand its production capabilities at a time when demand for unscripted content is likely to surge.
“We have long admired the excellent work of Steve and Asylum,” said Sanhueza. “Steve’s hunger for growth, proven track record and market insight will benefit all of our creative partners as we seek to further invest in non-scripted productions.”
