Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) will showcase the success and impact of the UAE nuclear energy sector at the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Biennial Congress (BGM) in Prague, Czech Republic, from 9 to 11 October. WANO BGM WANO – A Global Commitment to Excellence in Nuclear Energy” brings together companies and countries involved in commercial nuclear operations and collaborates with them through mutual support, information exchange and simulation of best practices.
Through the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, a major strategic energy infrastructure project, the UAE has been recognized as a global leader in nuclear energy, demonstrating that nuclear energy is an important climate solution that has a real impact on today’s economy and the environment. ENEC has been an active WANO member since 2010, regularly participating in the organization’s workshops, events and training programs with His Excellency Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, ENEC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, elected to the WANO Atlanta Center Governing Board in August 2015.
WANO’s mission is to maximize the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide, and the group includes more than 120 members responsible for operating more than 430 civilian nuclear reactors worldwide.
Units 1 and 2 are producing clean electricity every minute of every day, while Unit 3 is preparing for commercial operation – the Barakah plant is leading the decarbonisation of the UAE’s power sector and is central to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy component. The entire nuclear industry is an important part of the UAE’s low-carbon technology clean energy ecosystem, ensuring the reliability, efficiency and resilience of the UAE’s power grid for at least the next 60 years.
