October is full of seasonal fun and some scares. Earlier this month, we listed some events; now here are some more treats (no tricks!) for your social calendar.
Baco Market: The downtown pop-up ended the month with two other events, the first on Friday. The night market will host a special prize and trick-or-treating costume contest for the “leprechauns” from 5-9pm.
Dozens of merchants and food vendors, including several minority and established businesses, will also attend the community market at Centennial Plaza outside the Machine Bank Arena at 1001 Truston Avenue.
The next market will be held on October 22nd from 10am to 3pm
NOR Fall Festival: This is the fifth autumn festival held in Beihe Amusement Park area. To celebrate the changing seasons, Saturday’s free event will include an afternoon of bouncing houses, vendor booths and candy. Attendees can choose from a range of games including Plinko, cornhole, Connect 4, tic tac toe, Jenga and pumpkin hula hoop toss, as well as get temporary tattoos and creations at the crafting station.
The first 200 guests will receive a free hot dog lunch while supplies last.
There will be a film screening in the park after the event.
This family-friendly festival takes place Saturday from 1-4pm at North Meadows Park at 3300 McRae Street.
Panic Valley/Halloween: The local haunt of Sam Lynn Ball Park, the fear is back. Walk through the Happy Meadows Asylum and avoid the wrath of Dr. Holmes at Scare Valley, which is only recommended for those aged 12 and over.
Halloween Village is the destination for families looking for smiles rather than fears, as they love the Pumpkin Patch, the haunted Hayride, Ghost vs. Ghoul Laser Tag and the Casper District Bounce Zone.
Open Friday and Saturday 6pm-midnight, Sunday 6pm-10pm (Panic Valley opens at dusk), now through October 30 at Sam Lynn, 4009 Chester Avenue court.
Admission to Pumpkin Fields is free. Halloween Village is $10 (children 2 and under are free) and each paid entry includes 10 paintballs (excluding haunting). Scare Valley is $30 on October 14, 15 or 16; $35 on October 21, 22 or 23; and $40 on October 28, 29 or 30. A one-time fast pass for the haunted house is $10 per person.Tickets are available at Scarevalley.com.
“My Funny Frankenstein”: Laughing with Bio (Nick Ono) as he aims to leave show business and his career with Dr. Frankenstein (Don Kruszka).
The show also included the vaudeville show “Dracula’s Grand Wedding Reception.”
The pre-Halloween weekend will also include a costume contest and other fun on the show.
Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7pm, Sunday through November 13 at 2pm, in theaters, 12748 Jomani Drive
Admission is $27, seniors and military are $25, and children 12 and younger are $16.
“Horror Shop”: Cal State Bakersfield will star in the popular off-Broadway musical for two weeks.
Director Mandy Rees guides students through a dark sci-fi comedy about a docile flower clerk who stumbles upon a new type of plant that happens to smell bloody.
Showtimes are October 20, 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:30pm and October 30 at 2pm at the Dole Theatre, 9001 Stockdale Highway.
Admission is $15, seniors (60 and older), $10 for CSUB faculty, and $7 for students.

Bakersfield’s 4th Annual Halloween Pub Crawl: If you’re here for booing, join this costumed crawl on October 22nd with stops at Riley’s Tavern, Jerry’s Pizza, CraSh Lounge, Gatsby’s Lounge, Mama Roomba and Tacos Las Salsas Express.
Also look forward to games, prizes, photoshoots and costume contests.

Honky Tonk Halloween: If you like hospitality with a touch of thorns, head to Pour House Bar & Grill on October 29th for an evening of music and fun.
Country Music Night will feature acoustic music with Joe Peters from 7-8pm, followed by Appletons from 8:30-9:30pm, followed by soda from 10-11pm biscuit
Participants can end the night with karaoke, which lasts until the bar closes.
There will also be a costume contest, and Halloween-inspired cocktail specials will be on call.

“Rocky Horror Picture Show”: As the midnight cult classic returns to Fox Theater after three years, Velvet Darkness will take attendees through time warps and other shenanigans.
Thanks to the downtown bar, the experience is also “Tiki-Ko Transylvaniafied,” which will prepare some Rocky-themed cocktails for the evening.
Best to wear your Rocky Horror, or get a limited-edition Fox T-shirt by Chris Borbon ($20 each). Prop bags ($5) can also be purchased in advance and picked up the night of the show.
