Dance band Cold Shot will be the first musical group to perform when Picnic in the Park at the Davis Farmers Market returns on Wednesday, May 17.

According to a press release from the Davis Farmers Market, family fun events will be held every Wednesday night from May 17 to September 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. Local bands play every night. There will be entertainment for children, plenty of food vendors, and plenty of opportunities to gather the community.

Late September to early May, switch back to the Traditional Farmers Market on Wednesdays, 3-6pm

Starring René Martucci and Richard Urbino, Cold Shot brings together a dynamic selection of upbeat rock, pop and dance songs by iconic artists from decades past.

Picnic in the Park’s new layout is designed for success. Food trucks will fill the courtyard area and the band will play at the top of the stairs facing the lawn. Customers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets for picnics. Tables and chairs will no longer be provided.

During operating hours, the market will have an open container permit, allowing patrons to drink alcohol on the grass, whether it be a can of beer from one of the four Davis breweries that rotate weekly, a bottle of wine from Heringer Estates, or A drink they brought from home.

Picnic in the Park will focus on family-friendly kids’ activities and music, as well as a variety of food made from market ingredients. The plans call for clowns and face painters, but no pony rides or bounce houses.

Meanwhile, the Downtown Davis Business Association is planning a fall concert series called Thursdays at The Davissphere, with five concerts planned in Central Park or G Street between Aug. 31 and Oct. 26 , depending on the date. The music schedule and venue are being finalized.

Every week in downtown Davis, thousands of people gather to buy locally grown, raised and manufactured produce. Since 1976, the Davis Farmers Market has connected and supported communities, area farmers, farmers and artisanal food producers. It educates the public about nutrition, sustainable farming and the local economic value of buying food and products directly from producers.

The signature market at the Davis Farmers Market is Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons/evenings in Central Park. It also manages the farmers markets at UC Davis, Sutter Davis Hospital and Sacramento Sutter Medical Center.

Its Davis Farm-to-School program has supported the Davis Unified School District since 2000 by providing farm- and garden-based education, increasing farm-fresh foods in school meals, and reducing solid waste through recycling and composting.
