The Alexandria City Council made changes to the entertainment district at its meeting on Monday.
Council first approved the area in 2015 to help promote the downtown area.
“This ordinance brings more properties to the area,” City Clerk Amanda Thomas told council.
New additions to the district include South Street, Madison Street, Old Town Hall and Police Station, Broad Street Parking Lot, Wellborn Musclecar Museum and the property currently used by Sunshine Donuts.
The district was created to help bring people to the city center. One of the elements of the area is that alcohol from approved cups is allowed to be consumed in the area.
Water and Sewer Tenders
Council approved a bid to build a sewer to Wicker Point. A bid of $1,279,412 was approved for the construction of a sewer lift station and a bid of $8,428,720 was approved for the construction of a mandatory header from Wicker Point to the Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility. The mandatory main line will be connected to a line at Wind Creek State Park.
After no bids were received for the project, the council approved allowing the mayor to negotiate with contractors to replace the city’s water lines.
Among other actions, the Alexandria City Council:
• Approved the minutes of the September 19 and October 3 meetings.
• Approved a regulation on the operation of medical cannabis dispensing establishments. There are no dispensers planned, according to city officials.
• Approved application for December 5th Alexandria Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas parade.
• Approval of Respawn Arcade’s retail beer license.
The next regular meeting of the Alexandria City Council is scheduled for November 7 at 5:30 pm.
Councillors Chris Brown and Jimmy Gere did not attend the meeting.
