entertainment one (eOne) have sold their first Soanish language series “Operación Marea Negra” to over 60 territories including the US and Mexico (Roku), Australia (SBS), Latin America (AMC Networks Intl), Canada (TELEUS) and Spain ( Disney’s FOX channel).
This four-part series is based on the true story of Europe’s first intercepted drug submarine in November 2019, when three smugglers crossed the Atlantic in a homemade underwater vessel carrying more than 3,000 kilograms of cocaine. After boarding a ship in the central Amazon, they sailed to Europe while enduring starvation, engine failure and storms, before being captured by the National Guard off the coast of Galicia.
Álex González (“3 Caminos”) as “Nando, a former boxer and leader who turns to trafficking when his other economic options dry up.” Joining him are Nerea Barros (“La Isla Mínima”), Nuno Lopes (“White Lines”), Miquel Insua (“La Unidad”), Luis Zahera (“El Reino”), Xose Barato (“Alba”), Carles Francino (“Cable Girl”), Manuel Manquiña (“Before Burning”) ), Lúcia Moniz (“True Love”), Luís Esparteiro (“Super Pie”), David Trejos (“Perdida”), Leandro Firmino (“City of God”) and Bruno Galliaso (“Marighella”) starring.
Daniel Calpasoro, Oscar Santos and Joao Maya directed the series.
The series is produced by Fiction Productions. Mamen Quintas and Julio Casal executive produce with Ukbar Films. FORTA is co-produced by TVG and RTP Portugal.
Production on the second season is complete, and a four-part companion documentary series “Operación Marea Negra: The Suicidal Mission” is also licensed. It has been licensed to The Roku Channel (US), SBS (Australia), Ziggo (Netherlands) and Telus (Canada).
