Golf entertainment chain Topgolf may be heading to the town of Lower Macungie as part of a proposed mixed-use development.
The township planning committee considered the entire project at its meeting on Tuesday evening.
The project is called Lehigh Valley Town Center, is a 45-acre Jaindl Land Co. development proposed for land bordering Schantz Road, Interstate 78, and Route 222. The site consists of property formerly owned by Eastern Industries, as well as open agricultural land.
Nathan Jones, director of planning and community development for the town, said developers were looking to make changes to the zoning to allow for currently permitted uses in the immediately adjacent zoning.
Topgolf property development director Todd Waldo said the two-storey site would be a huge economic driver, creating 300 jobs, bringing in taxes and offering features such as a restaurant, bar and outdoor dining area.
Other Topgolf locations in Pennsylvania are currently in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Waldo added.
“…Of course, with your support, we want to make Topgolf a reality in the township,” he said.
As a sketch plan, no action was taken by the planning committee, but chairman Thomas Bell expressed his approval of the potential Topgolf site.

“I think Topgolf will be a great addition to the town, even though I’m not a golfer,” he said.
This is the first of many steps a mixed-use project must go through.In terms of retail impact, this will be one of the biggest projects since then Hamilton Crossing opened in 2016.
The development will include a 12,500-square-foot retail grocery store, retail and entertainment space, and an unspecified number of residential units.
Also discussed on Tuesday, French & Parrello Associates of Walltown, N.J., proposed 372-apartment and 160-room hotel at 617 North Crox Road Go through the bypass at the Hamilton Crossings Mall.
The 54.4-acre Krocks Road mixed-use development in the freeway business district will include a clubhouse and condo pool, nearly 20,000 square feet of commercial space and parking.
The Planning Commission eventually submitted the proposal until applicants were able to rehabilitate the plan, one of which was the 50-unit limit above the statute.
In August, Jones said: “As a community, we understand that there is a Regional housing issues, so we recognize that the private market as well as other government agencies are advocating for more housing units.Township cadre goals [are] Ensuring good, high-quality development[ing] Its desirability and value for years to come has been established, it mitigates the impact of traffic and stormwater on our community and our adjoining community Upper Macungie Township, and provides the services residents need. “
