Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) Launches 47-Unit Al Naqa’a Housing Project in Latakia, Syria. In response to directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ERC unveiled the Al Naqa’a housing project consisting of 47 prefabricated units in Latakia Governorate, Syria.
This initiative, valued at AED 65 million, was announced in April to construct 1,000 prefabricated housing units across seven areas in Latakia Governorate, aimed at aiding Syrian families affected by the earthquake on February 6.
Acting ERC Secretary General, Hamoud Al Junaibi, affirmed the project’s alignment with the UAE’s humanitarian and relief efforts in Syria, reflecting a commitment to alleviating the impact of natural disasters on affected regions.
The housing units adhere to high-quality standards with considerations for material quality, ventilation, and solar power integration for electricity generation. Each unit comprises two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, accommodating up to six family members.
A committee was established, involving local development authorities, Latakia Governorate Council, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, and other relevant entities, to identify eligible families for the housing units.
Amer Hilal, Governor of Latakia, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian and relief projects in Syria, emphasizing their positive influence on the lives of those affected by the earthquake.
The fully serviced Al Naqa’a housing project is expected to provide stability to families displaced by the earthquake.
Latakia Governorate designated seven locations spanning 10 hectares for the housing units, complete with essential infrastructure and service centers.
The inauguration event witnessed the presence of Abdul Hakeem Al-Nuaimi, Chargé d’Affairs in the UAE Embassy in Damascus, alongside ERC representatives and Syrian officials.
