Etihad Airways EY20 sustainable flight is now on sale

[ad_1]

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, invites travelers to book its EY20 sustainable flight from London Heathrow Airport to Abu Dhabi on October 23 to celebrate the latest anniversary of the Etihad Green Liner program.

The Etihad Greenliner program-two years since its launch in 2019-uses Etihad’s Boeing 787 fleet as a testbed for working with the entire aviation industry to improve sustainability. As early as October 2019, Etihad Airways and Boeing signed a landmark agreement, committing to cooperate in the development of sustainable aviation solutions in the field of research and development and conventional commercial flights. Since 2019, the two companies have cooperated in the areas of on-board products, airspace management, cockpit tools, sustainable fuels, and even introduced expertise from NASA to study the noise levels generated by aircraft as a Boeing ecological demonstration Part of the plan.

Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Since Etihad and Boeing signed the Greenliner agreement, despite the global pandemic, the two companies have focused on providing sustainable solutions for the aviation industry. 10 The sustainable flight on March 23 will be a celebration of all the achievements of the past two years and a great flight for the passengers of Etihad Airways, who will see the future of commercial air travel. Sustainability during the pandemic The fact that sex has always been on the agenda proves the importance of this topic to Etihad-when COVID-19 is no longer a problem, the sustainability challenges facing the world still exist.”

As part of the Greenliner program, ecoFlights has been experimenting with selective improvements in sustainability for two years, and Etihad Airways is operating this special celebration flight, integrating the best flights of the past two years into one flight middle. Flights departing from Heathrow Airport in October will carry Etihad’s iconic Greenliner aircraft, whose paintwork is specifically designed to recognize the Greenliner plan and its call to action on the aviation industry.

According to estimates before the flight, the carbon dioxide emissions of this flight will be reduced by 72%2e Total, carbon dioxide reduction by 56%2Due to a series of interventions that will be implemented before, during, and even after the flight, the payload per unit is lower than the equivalent flight operated in 2019.

Before the flight:

  • The aircraft will be cleaned to ensure optimal aerodynamics and efficiency, including an engine-specific foam cleaning process developed in cooperation with General Electric, the manufacturer of the 787 fuel-efficient GEnX engine
  • The cutting-edge software being developed by partner SATAVIA will model the trajectory of the flight, which will be used to optimize the route.By minimizing contrails, flying will reduce its indirect environmental impact by reducing the contrails that cause global warming
  • The effect of contrails will be considered together with other factors that directly affect fuel combustion, such as wind speed, temperature, air pressure, and cloud cover.
  • Overall, the pre-flight plan will ensure that the most effective route under the conditions of the day is loaded into the flight computer-all before the aircraft leaves the ground
  • Guests who check in at the airport will be rewarded for flying without checked luggage or light luggage-guests are encouraged to consider the environment when deciding to travel, and reward those who choose to travel lightly.

After the flight:

  • The aircraft will consume 38% of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend, ensuring that a large amount of fuel is consumed from sustainable sources, thereby reducing overall emissions
  • In-flight tools such as Boeing’s FlightDeck Advisor and cooperation with air navigation service providers will help pilots achieve the most effective climb profile outside of Heathrow Airport, in the course of the en route, and in the descent profile into Abu Dhabi
  • Consumables, such as drinking water, will be loaded according to the expected consumption to reduce the total weight of the aircraft and save fuel
  • When landing at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the aircraft will use only one engine to taxi to the stand, again reducing fuel consumption
  • Upon arrival at the boarding gate, Etihad Airways’ new electric fleet will provide services to the aircraft for ground logistics such as luggage unloading

on the boat:

  • Guests will choose locally sourced dining options and receive Sola Cutlery’s lightweight stainless steel tableware, as well as a series of carefully selected products, from pottery and in-flight dishes to dental kits-all of which are purchased for the flight
  • Through cooperation with the service product design company deSter, all products on board are selected to ensure the highest standards of sustainable development from the perspectives of procurement, weight, and focus on the entire product life cycle (including scrap recycling).
  • The food provided on board will include vegetarian options, without the use of unsustainable products such as beef and palm oil, giving guests the opportunity to eat in a sustainable manner
  • Guests will receive private water bottles to minimize disposable paper cups and waste during the flight
  • All waste will be segregated to ensure the highest possible recycling level in Abu Dhabi
  • The flight will be staffed by a group of dedicated Etihad green ambassadors who will provide feedback to the Etihad service delivery team to continue to promote the development of Etihad products. On board, passengers who want to know more about EY20 sustainable flight and airline sustainable development plan can use them.

After the flight:

  • Data collected from aircraft sensors will be added to Etihad’s growing flight performance database and analyzed using tools from Greenliner’s partner GE Digital.
  • This analysis monitors flight performance and allows engineers and pilots to quickly identify patterns of unsustainable activity and take remedial actions as needed.

In addition to the improvements made before, during and after the flight, each Etihad Airways passenger will plant a tree in the mangrove plantation in Abu Dhabi to help offset future flights. The Etihad Mangrove Program was launched after the introduction of compensation that guests can purchase through CarbonClick and full compensation for the iconic Greenliner aircraft operating throughout the year 2021.These compensations come from the Makame Savannah REDD project-developed by Carbon Tanzania and include c. 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide2e offset, equivalent to CO2 It consumes 100,000 trees a year.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Sustainable flight will be the latest of many completed ecological flights we have completed on the 787 Dreamliner. Ambitions and intentions make it different from anything we have done before. It is no exaggeration to say that this will be our most sustainable flight to date, and to understand exactly what the future of flight will look like. This flight will be Put all the knowledge we have learned in the past two years into practice through the Etihad Greenliner program, which allows us to test SAF, environmentally friendly products and a series of operational efficiencies; reduce disposable plastic products on board and practice optimizing flight route planning And continuous decline.

“We understand that current and near-term technology can only allow us and the aviation industry to go further. We urgently need to see the fundamental advances in technology and the support of governments and regulatory agencies around the world so that we can overcome current challenges. Achieve the industry goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050.”
