Etihad Airways Group names new CEO; Douglas leaves

Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company ADQ has joined the Etihad Airways Board of Directors to appoint Antonioaldo Neves as Group Chief Executive Officer of the Etihad Airways Group, replacing Tony Douglas as Group Chief Executive Officer.

Douglas has decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere and will serve as an advisor to ADQ Aerospace Services’ board of directors during the transition period, according to a statement.

Neves was CEO and board member of TAP, the national airline of Portugal, where he successfully led a major transformation that resulted in a more valuable company with better customer service and more passengers for Portugal significant contribution to the development of tourism.

Before joining TAP, he was President of Azul Airlines in Brazil and successfully led the company’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Neves is also a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he developed long-term plans for the development of the Brazilian aviation industry.

Etihad enters 2022 with a record first-half operating profit of $296 million. The gains are evidence of a restructuring plan to reduce costs and preserve cash flow during the pandemic and increased passenger travel demand, the statement said.

Douglas has been Group Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways Group since January 2018. During his tenure, he spearheaded and led the airline’s ambitious transformation plan as part of its initial transformation plan, successfully positioning Etihad Airways as a major airline by optimizing costs, streamlining processes and the travel network, it added. , the next stage of sustainable growth.
