Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has resumed flights to the Indian city of Kolkata, with a total of seven direct flights a week.
The first flight of the new route EY256 took off from Abu Dhabi with a full load of passengers at 1:50 pm local time on March 26 and landed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport in Kolkata at 8:10 pm local time last night.
Upon arrival in Kolkata, passengers were greeted with a cake-cutting ceremony, which was attended by executives from Etihad Airways and Kolkata Airport.
The return flight, EY257, took off from Kolkata at 9.05pm local time on March 26 and landed in Abu Dhabi shortly after midnight.
Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer, Etihad Airways, said: “With the resurgence of outbound travel from India, we are delighted to resume daily flights to Kolkata, a key cultural and commercial hub of the Indian subcontinent. Re-establishing vital air links with East India Will support the growing demand from travelers in and around the region, allowing them to easily travel to Abu Dhabi and connect to our global network while enjoying a world-class flight experience. We were impressed by the initial demand and this Reaffirms our strategy to return to this key market.”
The flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, offering guests eight Business Class seats and 150 Economy Class seats, Etihad’s award-winning service, convenient flight times to the UAE capital and a growing relationship with the airline Seamless connection of destinations in the global route network of 67 destinations.
Etihad Airways passengers flying from Kolkata to the US can benefit from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the only US in the region that allows passengers to clear US immigration procedures while in Abu Dhabi Immigration pre-clearance services, which means travelers can get home faster and easier. – trade arab news agency
