Etihad Rail completes track laying at RAK Sharjah

Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national rail network, has announced that it has completed track laying on the main line in the northern emirate of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah as part of the final package for the second phase of the project.

The mainline of the network stretches from Ghuweifat on the border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, passing through emirates such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Going full steam ahead, Etihad Rail will begin laying track in Fujairah in the coming weeks, bringing it closer to completing the UAE’s national rail network as planned.

The Sharjah line, which stretches over 45 kilometers, is part of the final package of the project, 145 kilometers in length. In 25 months, more than 11.7 million hours were spent connecting the emirate to the mainline.

Around 2,900 workers and engineers were involved in the project, which included track laying work and quality checks on the new production line.

The Ras Al Khaimah line, which is more than 5.7 kilometers long, connects the emirate to the main line, recorded more than 1.3 million hours of work over 25 months, involving 350 workers and engineers.

Khuloud Al Mazrouei, Deputy Project Manager, said: “Etihad Rail has made significant progress by completing major works on the UAE’s national rail network and connecting it to major lines in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, allowing us to We are closer than ever to completing the network on time and achieving our goal of providing an efficient and sustainable transport network that connects the emirates of the country and connects the UAE to the region.”

“This plays a key role in opening up new prospects for the logistics and transport industry, driving social development and providing promising economic opportunities in various sectors in the UAE and the region,” she said.

Al Mazrouei said: “We are on track to continue our success story with the support of our outstanding national and global talent, who have contributed to strengthening the UAE’s infrastructure sector.”

The final package of the second phase, 145 km from Sharjah to Fujairah via Ras Al Khaimah, made important progress. In May, Etihad Rail began wrapping track laying operations.

The line in the final package of the second phase has 54 bridges and 20 animal crossings. It also has nine tunnels that extend over 6.9 kilometers along the Al Hajar Mountains, including the longest heavy cargo tunnel in the GCC, extending over 1.8 kilometers.she added.-TradeArabia News Service
