[ad_1]

This is part of the country’s efforts to build a national railway.

Excavation of the longest tunnel in the Middle East built as part of the Etihad Railway project has been completed.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has completed the excavation of a 1.8 km tunnel. The Railway Magazine said it was driven by a softer blast tunnel under difficult geological conditions.

In December 2019, Etihad Railway Company won the bid for the second phase D package civil works and construction bidding for the UAE National Railways of Dh4.6 billion.

The 145-kilometer plan D includes the construction of 15 tunnels through the Hajar Mountains. In addition to the construction of 35 bridges and 32 underground passages, the total length of these tunnels is 16 kilometers. This will connect the ports of Fujairah and Khorfakan with the railway network along the Dubai-Sharjah border.

Etihad Railway Company had earlier awarded the design and construction contract for Package A to a joint venture between China State Construction Engineering Corporation and SK Engineering and Construction of South Korea. Packages B and C were awarded to a joint venture between China Railway Construction Corporation and Gantute General Contracting Company.

This is part of the company’s mission to establish a 1,200 km national railway network, which will also become an integral part of the proposed GCC railway.
