London – Etihad Airways, one of the two national airlines of the United Arab Emirates, is poised to fly and welcome more than 1.5 million passengers this winter through its headquarters hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
As the World Cup kicks off in nearby Qatar this weekend, thousands of fans are likely to gather in neighboring Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
It has been well documented that both UAE countries have seen an uptick in accommodation bookings to avoid Qatar’s dizzying array of hotels and holiday rentals before taking the short flight to watch the game live.
The Formula 1 season finale is scheduled for this weekend, with Sunday being race day. No doubt Etihad will be flying many of the racegoers into the AUH in preparation for the weekend. What proved to be a must-see nail-biting film last year just isn’t quite as ready for 2021.
Still, that doesn’t stop its dedicated racing fans from heading to the UAE capital for one of the most fascinating F1 races on the circuit. Other key events that will bring business and leisure travelers alike include the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show and the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship at Yas Links in early 2023.
“There’s never been a better time to experience Abu Dhabi, with the Etihad Airways Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking place this weekend and more to see in winter.”
“Fans from all over the world will also flock to the region ahead of the most exciting football event of the year. Etihad Airways and its partners are therefore gearing up to welcome 1.5 million over the next six weeks expected guests.”
“Guests flying through Abu Dhabi will enjoy the experience from the moment they take off, from Etihad’s award-winning cabin crew and warm hospitality,” Shaeb Al Najjar, General Manager, Etihad Aviation Hub Operations.
At this year’s Skytrax Awards, the award-winning Airline Cabin Crew and Hospitality Services received the award for ‘Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East’.
Etihad Airways has issued advice on how to get the most out of its services when traveling with them in the coming months. Check in online or at home, check in early, arrive at the airport early, and double check flight times and departure terminals before leaving home.
One advantage for anyone flying from Abu Dhabi to the US is that they have access to the US Customs and Border Protection facility at the airport. This enables travelers to go through U.S. immigration procedures in the city of departure. Ultimately reducing the time they spend at the airport when they land on the other side of the Atlantic.
An added bonus for anyone in the city is the ability to use Morafiq’s city check-in. The Mina Zayed facility is open 12 hours a day, and passengers can pay an additional fee to handle excess baggage allowance, select or upgrade seats. This service is available from 4 to 24 hours before flight departure.
