Etihad welcomes UAE’s first local female captain

A new milestone in the history of Emirates has just been achieved. This week, First Officer Aisha Al Mansoori completed the training and testing required to become Etihad Airways captain. The promotion makes her the first female captain to work for Etihad Airways and the first native-born female Emirates captain. The promotion was conferred during the airline’s Command Upgrade Ceremony. The ceremony took place at the airline’s crew briefing center. The newly appointed captain’s family was in attendance as well as airline executives and fellow pilots. She will begin her new schedule as captain on August 28.

Al Mansoori joined the airline in 2007 as a trainee. In 2010, she graduated from training and started her first airline flight as a co-pilot. Airbus A320. Through years of dedication and hard work, she has acquired the knowledge, skills and flight time required to become a Captain at Etihad. This is her second major achievement for women in aviation.She previously became the first UAE national female pilot to fly the aircraft Airbus A380.

Aisha has earned her status and will no doubt inspire her fellow Emirati and young women around the world to follow their dreams in aviation. “

At the ceremony, Al Mansoori thanked Etihad Airways for this opportunity. She also shared that she is proud to help shape the future of women’s aviation in the Emirates. she says,

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to join Etihad’s Cadet Pilot programme and to develop my career at Etihad over the years. I am grateful to the Etihad coaches for the tremendous support they have given me and their involvement in my training process The guidance I gave in, it shaped my skills and prepared me for the rank of captain.”
