Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be held in Liverpool.

Graham Norton, 59, made the announcement on BBC One’s The One Show on 7/7/22 after being nominated as a co-finalist to host the competition earlier this month.

“The city that will host the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 is Liverpool,” said BBC’s Eurovision presenter Graham Graham.

He also told viewers to “put it on your calendar” and praised Britain’s 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder for removing “Eurovision’s curse” for Britain.

Although Ukraine’s Karush Orchestra won the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy in 2022, the European Broadcasting Union’s event producers did not believe it could be held safely in the country due to the ongoing Russian bombardment of the country.

In a statement about the 2023 announcement, the organisation said: “We are delighted that next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool.

“While we haven’t had the pleasure of visiting yet, the city’s musical heritage is known around the world.

“Playing in the same place where the Beatles started will be a moment we will never forget!

“While we regret that next year’s game cannot be played in our home country, we know the people of Liverpool will be enthusiastic hosts and the organisers will be able to add a real Ukrainian flavour to Eurovision 2023 in the city.”

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, of the Liverpool City area, said: “While we’ve had tough competition from Glasgow, they deserve more than the zero points they got on this occasion, nowhere better than them. Experience or more qualified and there is nowhere like throwing a party we really are.

“We want to put on a show that Ukraine can be proud of and we’ve been working closely with Liverpool’s sister city Odessa to make sure it’s their same event as we are.

“Now the hard work begins. In the most turbulent and difficult years of our continent, putting on a show that will give millions of people a night they will never forget is no mean feat.

“If there’s any place where it’s capable, it’s Liverpool City, with the help of our Ukrainian friends.”

In 2022, Sam Ryder, 33, took second place in the competition for his “Space Man” song, the ninth time the UK has had the chance to host the event, which will Held in May next year.
