Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix One Piece adaptation.
The worldwide hit manga created by Eiichiro Oda will be produced by Tomorrow Studios, the team behind the Cowboy Bebop adaptation. The series has yet to set a release date, but rumors point to an April 2023 release date.
Steven Maeda, whose credits include The X-Files, Breaking Dawn and Lost, has been announced as a producer on the series. Several members of the screenwriting team were also exposed, including Alison Weintraub, Ian Stokes, Matt Owens, Jason Zhao and others.
Daredevil, The Witcher and The Punisher director Marc Jobst will helm the first episode of the series. As for the production, after several delays it is now underway at the Cape Town Film Studios, and the President of South Africa even spoke about the show in a press release, saying:
“One Piece is Netflix’s largest production in Africa to date – both in terms of size and budget, and it includes South African labour, infrastructure and suppliers.”
Details have been released for the first episode, titled Dawn of Romance and written by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda. Filming for the series officially ended on August 22, 2022.
Netflix has announced the cast of beloved characters: Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
