Family dismisses rumors he’s on ventilator
Former Pakistani President General (retired) Pervez Musharraf hospitalized due to deteriorating health.
The former leader, who ruled the country from 2001 to 2008, was taken to an American hospital in Dubai.
Rumors of Musharraf’s death abounded on social media earlier this evening.
However, the former president’s family denied the reports, confirming that he was ill but not on a ventilator.
“He is not on a ventilator. He has been hospitalized for the past 3 weeks due to complications of his disease (amyloidosis),” they said in a tweet.
They added that the former president was “going through a difficult phase of recovery with malfunctioning organs” and asked for prayers for “peace of mind in his daily life.”
The tweet came after several media outlets reported that the former political leader died in Dubai on Friday.
Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when an abnormal protein called amyloid builds up in organs and interferes with their normal function.
All Pakistan Muslim League Overseas Chairman Ifzal Siddiq also confirmed that although Musharraf was sick, he was “as always on high alert”.
“Please don’t listen to the fake news. Just pray that he is in good health,” he said.
