Former Ukrainian general Viktor Muzhenko has warned that Russia could launch a new offensive in the summer. Viktor Muzhenko previously served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In an interview with Ukrainian newspaper Fakty, the general said he believed any Russian offensive would be possible in late summer or early autumn of this year, suggesting an August offensive was most likely.

“Given Russia’s symbolism, their ideologues ‘grandfather fought,’ ‘we can do it again,’ there may be plans that fit that ideological packaging. That’s how it happens,” the general said. explain.

Viktor Muzhenko also said that August is the likely month as Russia may use it as an occasion to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk, a turning point for Russia during World War II. But the general also said that “it’s likely that nothing special will happen this year”.

“I believe there are still certain resources out there. The question is: when will it accumulate to the point of implementing some more or less significant operations that they really need within a year against the backdrop of failures and inability to justify their even tactical victories ?” said Viktor Muzhenko.

He added that Russia is still capable of coming back in the war because their military is not necessarily “exhausted to their potential”. This is because the Russian military has been trying to achieve victory over Ukraine in recent months.
