Carlo Ratti Associati’s project is not just a place to meet and share, it aims to create an immersive coffee experience through every stage of its life cycle (from coffee beans to cups). It will achieve this goal by guiding enthusiasts and guiding them through a narrative composed of fragrance, innovation and sustainability, and by attracting their imagination and senses. Solar Mocha, a humanized device driven by solar energy. Solar Moka presents the production process as a continuous cycle, combining natural and artificial elements, revealing the potential reusability of each component, and emphasizing a Transparent procurement chain.

The combination of special finishes and materials provides visitors with a multi-sensory experience, including taste, in the form of the best Italian coffee, hearing and smell, thanks to the sound of grinding and the release of coffee aroma, as well as through contact with organic coffee. Materials used for decoration, such as resin coffee beans on the workbench. The project also reminds us of the relationship between coffee production and the local community, which represents the beating core of this special story.

Three chapters of the story

Coffee plant// A series of medium-sized coffee plants are suspended on the earth to show visitors the initial stages of the production process. These plants will be planted throughout the Expo, and when they are ready, their beans will enter the production cycle.

Solar mocha // Inspired by the climate of the Middle East, Solar Moka incorporates a series of mirrors that follow the sun to generate heat.the concept of The 2.2-meter-high Mocha pays homage to the iconic Carmencitamoka pot, which was designed for Lavazza in 1979 by Italian designer Marco Zanuso. This innovative technology can reduce energy consumption in the subsequent stages of coffee preparation. After heating, water flows through copper pipes surrounding the cafeteria, revealing the preparation process with a multi-sensory experience.

Countertop made of coffee // The inspiration provided by the circular economy can also be seen in the design of the counter, which is made from recycled coffee grounds and has a tactile surface top made of coffee beans and resin.
