Has the United Arab Emirates introduced an entry visa that does not require a host or sponsor? What are the changes to the procedures for the Green Residence Visa and the coveted Golden Visa?
Story so far: The Federal Service for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security began piloting the advanced visa system on September 6. The system was first announced by the UAE Cabinet, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Dubai Ruler in April.
What changes?
Changes to UAE visa rules can be broadly grouped into three categories – entry visas, green visas and golden visas. For the first time, the UAE has introduced an entry visa that does not require a host or sponsor. All entry visas are now available for single or multiple entry and are valid for 60 days, unlike the previous 30-day period. According to reports, the Golden Visa was introduced in 2020, aiming to allow skilled foreigners to live, work and study in the UAE without a state sponsor. Emirates News Agency.
What are the different types of visas?
If the applicant is listed as skill level 1, 2 or 3 by the Ministry of Human Resources and UAE, or is a recent graduate of one of the best 500 universities in the world, or has a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Another type of work visa includes the Entry Permit visa, which allows employers to sponsor visitors for temporary work assignments on projects. The University may also sponsor visitors to attend training and study courses.
The business entry visa allows investors and entrepreneurs to explore business and investment opportunities in the UAE.
For tourists, in addition to the regular tourist visa, the five-year multiple-entry tourist visa allows them to enter the country multiple times at their own expense, with each stay in the country for 90 days, which can be extended for a further 90 days. However, applicants must submit proof of a bank balance of US$4,000 or the equivalent in foreign currency for the past six months. The family visa allows parents to sponsor their boy until the age of 25, starting at 18, while the family visit permit allows visitors to enter the UAE if they are relatives or friends of UAE citizens/residents.
What are the changes to Green Residency and Golden Visa?
The new five-year green residency visa aims to attract exceptional talent, skilled professionals, freelancers, investors and entrepreneurs. It replaces the previous residence visa, which was only valid for two years. In addition, a residence grace period of up to six months has been introduced after the residence permit has been cancelled or expired.
Few changes have been made to the Golden Visa scheme, allowing more categories of people to obtain the coveted 10-year visa. Scientists, skilled workers, brilliant minds, real estate investors, entrepreneurs, students, humanitarian pioneers, doctors and nurses are also on the list. Long-term residency is available for skilled professionals with a minimum monthly salary requirement of Dh30,000 per month. Investors can also obtain visas when purchasing properties worth at least AED 2 million.
How will Indians benefit?
The Indian diaspora community is about 3.5 million, or about 30% of the UAE population. The restructuring of its entry and residency systems will further enhance the country’s image as a desirable work and investment destination. With thousands of talented professionals expected to find work in the UAE, tourists can now experience a hassle-free holiday with a simplified visa system.
