Explanation: What can and cannot be carried by travelers to Dubai-News

According to the regulations of Dubai Customs, all inbound and outbound passengers should declare their money.

Certain items brought by passengers to Dubai are exempt from customs duties. These include personal gifts worth AED 3,000; up to 400 cigarettes; 50 cigars; and 500 grams of tobacco. Anything higher than these is subject to tariffs.

According to Dubai Customs regulations, all inbound and outbound passengers (18 years and above) should declare the money they have. These include cash, cheques or precious jewellery worth more than AED 60,000. Any cash held by passengers under the age of 18 will be added to the items carried by their guardians.

>> Gifts: In order to be exempt from customs duties, “gifts should be for personal rather than commercial purposes.”

>> Pre-approval required: pets; seedlings; film and event cameras and equipment; printed matter and other forms of media; color cosmetics products; food, including chicken and frozen birds; wireless devices and drones.

>> Medicines: Passengers can carry prescription medicines for more than three months. They should have a prescription from a hospital or doctor, clearly mentioning the medication and the health of the passengers. The medicine should be kept in the original container, and the production date and expiry date should be indicated.

>> The use of Naswar and paan narcotics is prohibited.

Ibrahim Kamali, head of passenger operations, said that the iDeclare application can help inbound passengers to declare their belongings in advance. This reduces their waiting time to less than four minutes.

Kamari added: “We recommend that all passengers who come to the country declare their belongings and do not carry any luggage on behalf of others to avoid any legal liability.”
