The Japanese authorities plan to use the “Japan Day” event to be held at Dubai Expo 2020 on December 11 to promote the next World Expo, which will be held in Osaka, Japan in 2025.
Osaka Mayor Matsui Ichiro called on the Japanese government to relax travel restrictions related to the coronavirus so that officials in charge of the Osaka Expo in 2025 can go to Dubai to participate in “Japan Day” and meet with participants there, especially businessmen, according to the Sankei Shimbun Report.
Matsui and Governor of Osaka Yoshimura Bowen will travel to Dubai to participate in Japan Day, where various events including receptions and performances will be held. “I want to meet with the business community and our citizens during the event, and invite the most people to visit the Osaka Expo in 2025,” the newspaper quoted Matsui as saying.
The newspaper reported that Matsui and Kenji Wakamiya, Minister of the 2025 Osaka World Expo, have urged the central government to relax coronavirus-related restrictions through the use of “COVID-19 passports” in order to reactivate social and economic activities in Osaka.
The official of the Ministry of Commerce in charge of Expo 2025 said that Osaka plans to allow participants to attend the planned reception in Dubai.
Matsui said that isolation is a barrier that restricts the activities of the person in charge of the Osaka Expo and foreigners who come to participate in the event. “After returning to Japan, if we need to be quarantined, we cannot work [from Dubai],” He said.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that the 2025 Osaka World Expo is a “great project for a new era” after overcoming the new crown virus crisis.
As of October 15, 58 countries and 5 international organizations have confirmed their participation in the Osaka World Expo. Japan’s goal is to attract 150 countries and 25 international entities to participate.
“Sankei Shimbun” reported that the 2020 Dubai World Expo will be of great significance for Japan to successfully promote the 2025 Osaka World Expo. Officials of the event believed that Dubai’s “Japan Day” was an “priceless opportunity” to promote the 2025 Osaka Expo.
