At the start of the first ever Cycling Tour of Italy at Expo 2020 Dubai, a high-profile cycling race start list will be held tomorrow near the Italian Pavilion, which will kick off at the world’s greatest exhibition.
Organized by RCS Sport with the support of MadeinItaly.gov.it, the Dubai Sports Commission and Expo 2020 Dubai, the 30-lap sprint race will be held on November 6th on the 2.1 km track in Dubai as part of the Expo. High-profile drivers that have been confirmed on the entry list include the 2021 Tour of Italy champion and the 2019 Tour de France yellow jersey INEOS Grenadiers, three-time UCI road race world champion Peter Sagan ( BORA hansgrohe), Maglia Ciclamino of the previous Corsa Rosa (point classification), nine-time tour-stage champion Elia Viviani (Cofidis), 2021 Giro d’Italia KOM category champion Geoffrey Bouchard and two-time UCI ITT world champion Filippo Ganna ( INEOS Grenadiers), winner of the six stages of the Tour of Italy.
During the race, the riders will challenge on the infinite symbol-shaped track of the “Amore Infinito” of the Giro d’Italia. The competition will be held near the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020-the center showcases the beauty of “Made in Italy” products and experiences, and the Tour of Italy trophy will be exhibited there. The pavilion will also hold a “meeting meeting” with the race participants the day before the race to provide fans with the opportunity to talk to their favorite drivers. That night, on November 5th, the drivers will also participate in a gala dinner celebrating the first race, with a top driver at each table.
“Italy is a true expression of the meaning we hope to give to the Expo: connecting people, connecting ideas and connecting countries,” said Paul Glisenti, commissioner of Italy’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. “Giro d’Italia combines the beauty, scenery, cities and villages of our country, and cycling, as a proof of our tendency to explore, travel and understand new fields. This is the perfect spirit for Italy to participate in the Dubai Expo.”
