Expo Live, the global innovation and partner grants program launched by Expo 2020 Dubai, will expand as part of Expo City Dubai. It calls on social entrepreneurs from around the world to submit their ideas for climate-related interventions that can be shared and replicated for wider impact.
In line with the UAE’s 2023 “Year of Sustainability” and Expo 2020 Dubai and now Dubai Expo City’s long-term commitment to achieving positive social, economic and environmental change, the search will officially launch on 1 February. It marks the sixth live event since the plan was announced in 2013 as part of the UAE’s bid to host the expo.
Yousuf Caires, Executive Director of Innovation Programs at Expo Live, said: “Expo Live has already had an incredibly powerful and tangible impact on people and the planet, and in Dubai Expo City – the blueprint for sustainable urban development – which will host COP28 2019 climate conference and continuing our own journey to carbon neutrality, we are advancing our commitment to foster creativity and innovation to address the pressing issue of climate change.
Innovative spirit
“This new round of Expo Live embodies the collective responsibility and innovation necessary to achieve our climate goals as we welcome new environmental, sustainability and conservation solutions from around the world. With the urgent need to recalibrate our relationship with the planet , and it’s clear that 10 years on, Expo Live remains as timely and relevant as ever.”
Selected projects will receive funding as well as technical mentorship, support and collaboration opportunities, providing an invaluable platform to accelerate entrepreneurship and empowering Dubai Expo City to believe that collaboration and innovation can drive human progress.
Applications can be submitted at www.expocitydubai.com/expolive between 1 February and 1 March, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a live presentation event in Dubai in May, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
Supported 140 global innovators
To date, Expo Live has supported 140 global innovators from 76 countries, about a third of which relate to sustainability issues. The program positively impacted 5.8 million people worldwide, restored 36 million hectares, offset 190,000 tons of CO2 and saved 6.3 million liters of water.
Expo Live actively seeks innovative partnerships with international and local leaders in corporate, impact investing and social enterprise, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Acumen Fund and the Sharjah Center for Entrepreneurship (Sheraa).
The Expo Live community will play an important role in Dubai Expo City’s wider calendar of events, programs and events in 2023 as the city prepares to host the COP28 climate conference, sparking a ripple effect of individual and collective climate action from the UAE To the world. – trade arab news agency
