Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson attempted to wrap up the final round of the Formula 2 season with grace as he mustered the nerve to claim a fourth sprint victory in the Abu Dhabi Sprint ahead of the three-pronged Halberdier’s Richard Fischer and Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovic.
Things didn’t go so well at first, as he found himself unable to get past pole-sitter Verschoor on the reverse grid off the line, while a massive collision between Jehan Daruvala and Enzo Fittipaldi sent him an early red flag requiring repairs to the barrier.

Waiting patiently after the restart, Lawson pounced on lap 10 and never looked back, leading the Dutchman to the checkered flag by a stunning 7.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, 2022 champion Drugovich used all his tire management experience to finish third ahead of Dennis Hauger and Amaury Cordeel, with PREMA Racing’s Hauger finally finding his way on the Belgian as well.
Logan Sargent survived several tense moments on the opening lap to secure the superlicense points he needs to qualify for F1 with Williams in 2023, ahead of Alpine teenagers Jack Doohan and Roy Nini , won sixth place.
With just 12 points between third and seventh place, Sargeant leads Carlin team-mate Lawson by four points on 138 and 134 going into the final special of the year, with Doohan, Daruvala and Fittipaldi close behind. In the battle of the teams, MP Motorsport leads the ART Grand Prix and third-placed Carlin by seven points.
At 1300 local time on Sunday, Iwasa has a chance to cap off his rookie season with a victory in the Featured Event.
