Facial recognition in the UAE: Now, open a bank account through selfies-News

This service is the first of its kind in the UAE.

UAE citizens and residents can now open bank accounts through selfies from the comfort of their homes-and complete the entire process in less than five minutes.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of the Interior on Monday to launch the UAE’s first digital account opening service through the use of a selfie app.

Customers need to download the ADIB mobile banking app, which links to the ministry’s database and allows a seamless verification process.

Sameh Awadallah, head of ADIB branch network, said: “Through this partnership, ADIB becomes the first UAE bank to provide instant and secure account opening services using UAE facial recognition through its mobile app.”

The facial recognition system was developed by the ministry and can identify individuals based on the ministry’s data, the same UAE ID card, passport and face.

“This technology will enable UAE citizens and residents to open a new ADIB account at home without any personal verification, and have instant access to their bank accounts and services.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Shamsi, head of the artificial intelligence system and service development team of the Directorate General of Security Support, Ministry of the Interior, said that the plan strengthened the UAE’s digital agenda.

“This is in line with the Ministry of the Interior’s efforts to improve service efficiency and support the UAE Bank to strengthen the security and security of its digital services to resist the threat of cybercrime,” he said.

“We look forward to establishing more influential services with the financial sector and other sectors to bring greater convenience to UAE residents.”

Philip King, ADIB’s global head of retail banking, said that he is planning to extend the solution to other banking channels.

“This is a convenient and secure platform. The ADIB banking application is immediately linked to the Ministry of the Interior’s database. It enhances security against fraud and other forms of identity theft. As we grow, we plan to gradually extend it to Other banking services and channels.”

How to open your account in just 5 minutes

To open an account, citizens and residents must download the ADIB mobile app.

> First enter a registered mobile phone number, and then enter a one-time password (OTP), the password will be sent to the mobile phone.

> Then, scan the front and back of your UAE ID card. Click on the UAE ID card on the back of the phone and use Near Field Communication (NFC) to read the card data from the built-in chip.

> Next, scan the first page of the passport. Residents also need to scan the visa page.

> Selfie. You need to turn your face to the left or right for a liveness check. Then, your face will be immediately matched with the department’s facial recognition system.

> Employers need to enter some employment details and upload proof of salary as proof of employment.

> Now, select the account you want to open and the name to be displayed on the card. Enter your email address, select the nearest branch and sign the terms and conditions.

> After the match is successful, ADIB will send SMS-OTP again for final verification.
