Families of victims of the Charleston church shooting reach a $88 million settlement with the Department of Justice

On Thursday, the Justice Department announced a multi-million dollar settlement with the families of people affected by the June 2015 mass shooting at the Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

The 14 plaintiffs filed a claim, “claiming that the FBI was negligent because it failed to prohibit licensed gun dealers from selling guns to the shooter. For the 200-year-old African-American congregation,” according to a press release.

Attorney General Merrick B.
