A new arcade and family entertainment center is taking over the former GameWorks space in Town Square, with a grand opening scheduled for next week.

Velocity Esports will open on October 21st, welcoming visitors with an esports lounge, console games for video game enthusiasts, and traditional options such as bowling, billiards, darts and arcade games.

It will also have three bars and a full-service restaurant serving “American classics” such as burgers, house-made fries, salads and some Mexican dishes, according to general manager Corrine Clayton.

“We want to offer a little bit to everyone,” Clayton said. “You can let your teens come in and they’ll want to play Minecraft or Fortnite…and their parents might want to sit in a bar and watch the latest sports.”

The 36,000-square-foot space includes a 5,000-square-foot esports lounge with 40 gaming computers that can host esports competitions, Clayton said.

Clayton said the company chose Las Vegas because of its reputation as the entertainment capital of the world, where it can help build the company’s reputation and brand.

“We’re in Vegas and we let people from all over the world come in and see who we are and then they can go back to their hometown,” Clayton said. “As we open up more (locations), they Will witness them come to their town.”

Velocity Esports Inc. was launched in November 2021 by Velocity’s executive chairman and former GameWorks chairman and CEO Philip Kaplan, along with Leonard Wanger as president, and Velocity’s chief marketing officer Josh Rosenbaum, according to an April press release.
