What types of visas and entry permits are there?

  • Dependent visa. You are eligible for a dependant visa if your spouse, parent or child holds a valid residence permit. Men who want to bring their spouses to the emirate should receive a minimum monthly salary of Dh4,000 or Dh3,000 (including accommodation). According to government policy, the minimum wage for those who want to sponsor their parents must be Dh20,000.

Women can also sponsor their families if they earn Dh10,000 or Dh8,000 a month. They also require a special permit from the Dubai Department of Naturalization and Residence (DNRD).

  • The Freelancer visa is granted to independent professionals. If you want to work independently in education, media or technology, you can apply for a freelancer visa. Popular freehold areas, including Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge Park, offer visas for freelancers at different prices.
  • Green visa is a new type of residence visa. Holders can work in the UAE for 5 years without employer sponsorship. Freelancers, skilled workers and investors/partners are eligible for this visa.

What documents are required to obtain a visa?

  • Send a copy of your passport, photo and educational documents certified by the UAE embassy in your country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) to apply for a residence visa.

Note that the UAE recently introduced a “green visa” in Dubai, allowing foreign workers to work in the city without a company/employer sponsorship.
