Feasibility study underway for Etihad Stadium entertainment destination development

[ad_1]

Manchester City announced today that it is conducting a feasibility study to create a first-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.

The feasibility study is aligned with the Eastlands regeneration framework and the ambition to develop East Manchester into a world leading sport, leisure and entertainment destination. Its core principles are to ensure that the Etihad Campus facility is a vital source of employment and economic opportunity for the local and Manchester communities.

Fans and the local community will be invited to share their priorities and feedback on the concept in early 2023.

The feasibility study considered several interrelated elements, the centerpiece of which is the expansion of the North Stand, which could increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000 people. In addition to this, the study is assessing the feasibility of an expanded and covered “town square” fan area, which will include food and beverage outlets, a new club store and museum, workspaces and an on-site hotel.

Identifying opportunities to introduce new entertainment experiences on matchdays and non-matchdays was a key component of this research, building on the club’s continued commitment to invest and develop its facilities for the benefit of fans and visitors.

Fans and the community are welcome to share any initial comments, including what they would like to see at the Etihad Stadium in the future, or any issues they would like the club to resolve before formal consultations begin in early 2023.

Since 2008, City Football Group has overseen an investment of over £700 million in the Etihad campus and East Manchester. The investment supports thousands of jobs, with CFG and its partners delivering a range of facilities including the City Soccer Academy, Cornell Co-Op Academy, Manchester Health and Performance Academy and the UK’s largest and hottest Co-op Live The Persistence Arena will open in December 2023.

City’s local recruitment and supply chain policies will apply to all aspects of any potential development should projects proceed.

The potential increase in capacity at Etihad Stadium’s North Stand is within the scope of the South Stand extension approved in 2014. Co-op Live’s recent traffic modeling and resulting local traffic and traffic measures also include this maximum capacity.

An expanded resident parking program and improvements to Metrolink are currently underway.

All new facilities will support Manchester’s aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2038, and measures are being considered to support walking and cycling links to the city centre.
