Felipe Drugovich has confirmed that after joining the team as a reserve driver, he will drive an Aston Martin in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The 2022 Formula 2 world champions were signed by Aston Martin in September, two days after winning the title, as their reserve driver.

He will take over from Nico Hulkenberg, who is rumored to be one of the hats in the Haas suit and has been confirmed for the FP1 conference this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Drugovich said: “I’m going to Abu Dhabi. [FP1 and the end of season test] It’s what I’m going to do this year.

Drugovich said he hoped it would be smooth sailing and realised there were many other drivers behind the wheel in F1 much more time than he is now.

“Next year I’ll be Aston’s reserve driver,” said the 22-year-old. “Obviously it’s still Nico this year, but I’ll be the bench next year.

“I’m going to be doing some FP1, some ’21 testing procedures, so I’m really excited about that. I think it’ll really set me up for a seat in the future.

“I think I deserve it and I’m really looking forward to preparing as well as I can.

“I’ve seen these people [other reserve drivers], they’ve done a lot of testing and preparing themselves, so it’s a safe bet that they’ll start with their first race next year. I’ll try to be consistent. “

The F2 champion has won five races (one sprint, four featured) throughout the season, but he highlighted the Monaco victory as his best ever.

“I would say Monaco, Barcelona and Zandvoort are very strong for me, but if I had to put one of those on the board it would be Monaco.

“First of all, because it was special for us. But I thought that game was very tough. I had some problems with my tyres, luckily I was in Monaco so it was difficult to get through there. I could defend P2.

“I think [it] It was something I really had to force myself not to make any mistakes and it was awesome to win in the end. “
