The federal government has advised Nigerians planning to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to comply with the country’s new visa regime.
“The attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria was caught by a video on social media showing alleged stranded Nigerians,” the government said in a statement released on Thursday evening by Foreign Office spokeswoman Francesca Omayuri. Those claiming their family members were on another flight were told to wait at the airport, awaiting their arrival.
“For the attention and guidance of the general public, the UAE government has introduced a new visa regime and has stopped issuing tourist visas to those under the age of 40, with the exception of those applying for family visas.”
The government has further stated that it is instructive for potential visa applicants to clearly state their visa preferences.
The government also called on Nigerians to respect immigration laws in other countries to avoid unreasonable treatment.
