Nigerians stranded in the United Arab Emirates are currently being analysed before being evacuated to Nigeria.
In a widely circulated video, thousands of people sat in empty spaces with their luggage and luggage following the mass deportation of foreigners by UAE authorities.
Briefing reporters in Abuja on Friday, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Council, said the analysis being carried out by the Nigerian consulate in Dubai was necessary to properly obtain details of Nigerians there before evacuating them.
She said: “The attention of the Nigerian consulate in Dubai is immediately drawn to the issue where Nigerians are being profiled. Some of them have passports, some of them don’t. Some children don’t have any form of identification. Some don’t even Remember the names they had when they first entered the country. So they need to be analyzed. It’s also important to make sure some people aren’t committing a crime and they’re just running away.
“So what the consulate is doing now is profiling everyone in the detention center. Initially, at the airport, there was a fake WhatsApp message sent to everyone saying there was a flight that led to the airport. There were a lot of Africans.”
The chairman of NiDCOM also explained: “After the analysis, the consulate will decide the next steps to take. The consulate and the embassy will inform the federal government of the next steps to take.”
